Default ETC on Sportsman 700

If I/the dealer adjusts the ETC on my bike, can that adjust the rpm's so that they are higher when the throttle is pined to get a faster acceleration? I dont want to disable it, but i want to have higher rpm's to accelerate faster. cuz it seems my 700 is a little sluggish and i;m not gettin the whole 683 cc's out of it. any info would be great. and thx in advance

Adding R's doesn't mean you'll accerate faster unless your running R's below what peak HP is on the motor. Unless you can find a dyno chart showing at what RPM horsepower peaks at, adjusting the RPM's is pointless. What RPM does it read when pinned? My Sp600 shows 6000-6100 when pinned, it is also brank spankin new so once it's broke in I might see upward of 6200 max. Don't know if this is normal or not or if the 7 hundo peaks at the same R's. Being a bigger bore it might nestle in more around 5900????

thanks for the reply... i'm pretty sure its like 4500 somewhere in there when its pinned from the start.... top speed is good.. i'm just talkin about accelerating faster... and it takes a long time to get to like 60... it will get up to 35/40 nicely but faster than that takes a long stretch. Is the normal?

BTW... you make RPM adjustments by tuning the clutch, not ETC.

4500 is low but if top speed is still there it must be revving close to 6k. It won't hit top speed unless it's fully revving. How you explained the acceleration is normal, zips up to 40 then slows down after that. It's actually slowing acceleration once you hit the throttle off the start, as clutches shift out, "gear ratio" increases and acceleration slows, just as when you shift a bicycle up one gear at a time. Also if you notice the tach's on these, they aren't an "instant response" tach. So when you pin it, it may hit 6k but not show it on the tach for a bit, but the tach will climb up to that RPM. If you get a chance go out and get a little distance, pin it and watch the tach while listening at engine tone. The tach with climb while engine tone is the same and see what the tach levels out at.

Is it brand new? Only have around 10 miles on my 6'er and haven't had it past 55 yet, and it really crept from 50-55. But it's new and as it breaks in I'm sure it'll speed up.

A good clutch kit will help acceleration a lot.

its fairly new.. 20 hours and like 88 miles on it.. ur right... i got it to top out at 68... but it crept there to 68... i dont need it to go that fast.. as i ride mostly at under 50 and that is plenty fast for my style.. but as you said, a clutch kit will help acceleration. I will look into gettin one cuz i just want it to hit like 45/50 really quick... i know its a 750 lb machine, i just thought it would be faster after i rode my friends 650 prairie then got back on my 700 and noticed a big difference. good to know about all that stuff. I'm glad you put it the way you did cuz that is exactly what i needed to know. I'm new to polaris and the sport, and have no idea how half this stuff works... buz i do good enuf to get by. thx for the speedy response
