Default Sportsman on a Diet

The polaris web site shows the 500 to be 20 pounds lighter for 2004. Any ideas how they did it? Also, what other changes were there for the sp500 for 2004?

I noticed that also. Some of the liturature lists the 400 at 697# and the 500 at 677#. However, my owners manual lists both machines at 697#. I think the owners manual is probably correct.

The 20 lb loss is from the new tires, they got rid of the goodyear rawhides.

Is there really that much difference in the weight of the tires? My owners manual (2004.5 500HO) lists both bikes at the same weight. Your explanation does make sense though.
