A lady friend I work with had her Sportsman in for a tuneup and they charged her 250 dollars for it and they called her and told her the clutch cover was cracked and they wanted 800 dollars for a new one. I can only guess this is labor included, she was not very specific but was overwelmed over the amount they wanted so she did not have alot of details for me.

Does this seem right for removal and replacement including gasket? AlaskaBoy.

 

The inner cover is $99 and the outer cover is $99. The seal around the cover is $10. All that is needed is to remover the outer cover and pull both clutches off. Should take less than 1/2 hour for a capable technician to do the job from start to finish

Could be. Do you know if it was the inner or outer cover that was supposedly "cracked" If it was the outer then there is no way in hell that it would cost $800, even with labor. That only takes a minute or 2 to take off. Also, what year machine is it?

 

Not sure if inner or outer, she was pretty hung up on the price so I was not able to get a clear picture on exactly what is wrong other then she said cracked clutch housing as for the year she said it was 2 years old. So it is either a 2001 or 2002 depending if it was a carryover model. I will check with her when I go in tonite and see what she got out of them.

I told her to check out the atv salvage yard and see if they have a used one, it would be half the price of new but cheaper in the long run. I will let you know tommorow on what i come up with. AlaskaBoy.

I checked with her last night and she said it was not a cracked cover but rather the clutch had a crack in it and they wanted 800 for a new clutch not including labor. Her husband told them to stop working on it and he will have a friend replace it for her. Of course the warranty had just expired. Thanks for the help though. AlaskaBoy.

 

The clutch is another story. But $800?????????? Her husband was smart to have them stop. The Primary clutch is around $350 (US$) and the secondary is even less. They were really trying to rip her off on that
