I just purchased a new 2004 Sportsman 90 for my kids. They have been riding it and are about through the first tank of gas. We just noticed that the Low oil light may momentarily come on when the gas is pressed. The other thing that I noticed is that it appears that some oil may coming out the vent hole on the oil tank cap. I guess I have a couple of questions.

1. How much oil does this bike use per tank of gas? It still looks like there is plenty of oil in the tank.

2. When is the light supposed to come on? half tank, quarter tank?

3. Has anyone else seen the oil coming out the vent hole?

I will be calling the dealer tomorrow to ask, just wondered what anyone else had seen.

My daughter has a 03 Sportsman, and every time I put gas in it I check to see if I can add some oil to the oil tank, so I cant really say when the light would come on.. but I would imagine if you do see it on and your able to add oil to do so... I've not noticed any leakage comming from the oil tank cap, mabe just normal venting and where dust collects on it... so far its been a prety good atv, we've only had one minor fouled spark plug issue... but now I carry extra plugs..

 

Oil should be being injected at a 50:1 ratio oil to gas. There's no way you should be out of oil after 1 tank of gas, unless they forgot to fill the oil tank, check that out first, if it's ok take it back to the dealer and have them fix the problem.
