Default Need Help: Carb Removed & Screws Unmovable

Amazingly BOTH of my 60 inch vise grips have gone MIA. (stupid wives using stuff and losing it) So I'll get a new pair and try that. Worst comes to worst I will bring my carb into work and let the machinists loose on it. lol

The impact screwdriver will take them out without damage to screw or carb, mine came right out and went right back in.....

For some reason I was thinking of the old impact driver that you pounded with a hammer.
Any luck getting them out yet?

Default Need Help: Carb Removed & Screws Unmovable

I finally got the carb out of the bike (stupid trick throttle cable) and I brought it in to work with me today. Hopefully today we can get them out and I can stop by Truevalue and get some REAL screws to put in it.

I'll post up the results and how we get it out before I leave today.

I'm thanking god that when I have to do this again it will be easier.

I tried that, but I dont have the tools at home to removed stripped screws. If I had those SS cap screws I want, I could have left the choke and throttle attached and just flipped it upside down.

Speaking of which, I said to hell with it and disconnected the choke cable and brought it along since I didnt feel like figuring that one out. LOL

SUCCESS!!!!

Put the carb into a 50lbs table vise. (wrapped the bottom in a rag and gently compressed it.)

Then we busted out the needle nose vice grips and locked them in. Then just gently jiggled the screw back and forth until you hear that POP sound of the screw breaking free, then it came right out.

The one I butchered in my attempts didnt come out so easy, had to use a 6 inch vise grip and work it with a screw driver at the same time.

Now for a trip to the hardware store for some stainless steel hex type cap screws. Also going to get some "nylock" bolts for my tires. The kind with the plastic washers built in.

AND I need to replace one of the bolts that holds my front plastic since I didnt tighten it enough last week and lost it.

WOW!.............The Predator has one of the easiest carbs I ever removed. All we did was take off the seat, air box lid and both side panels, unbolted the throttle and choke cables, a couple vent hoses and fuel line, attachment clamp and.............WAH-LA!......Its outta there!
Them bowl screws are a PITA on all carbs. Once you get them out, go get some allen screws.......... 4M-70-10s.
.........and while your at it, pick up three 4M-70-8s for the throttle cover plate cause they can be a PITA too..........
