Greasing u-joint
#13
Ok, I'll show my ignorance. When I put the grease in the u-joint of my trailblazer 250. I thought to myself. "Man this thing was bone dry". Then I saw it coming out on both side of my axle. (not sure of the technical name) Some under the break area and the rest to the right. Well I got that mess cleaned up and now I'm wondering if I blew out something. I thought that the access grease would have come out the zerk end. Thats where I was watching. Anyway this was my first attempt at greassing. I've learnt alot already. I never thought that greasing would be hard. Anyway did I blow out any type of seal are anything. Thanks.

You didn't hurt anything! The rear housing is pretty full of grease, as you put more in, the oldest stuff comes out at shaft seals. TIP: If water pours out or nasty grease comes out as you grease it, keep giving it the stuff. That is a good way to get old grease/water out of the housing. The only stupid question here is the one not asked. At one point in our lives, we all new NOTHING about quads You gotta start somewhere!! Good luck and keep asking the questions!

Thanks. Heres a question for yah. If polaris uses a special u-joint grease that is black in color. Why did it squirt out purple, the color of new grease that I was pumping in. shouldn't it have been black because the black would have been the old and the old is whats supposed to pump out first. Unless the u-joint was really that dry and had no black in it. But the most I put in it was 2oz. So if it was dry (I dont think it was) how many oz does a u-joint hold.

I can't say why but I can tell you I was looking at my SP500 yesterday that has not seen dirt yet and noted the purple grease on mine too. The pretty color caught me eye. It maybe a factory grease or a grease the dealer uses.
