I had a 250R then a banshee then a raptor and now i just bought a 700 sportsman with 2200 miles on it(2002 model) I love the 4x4, the sport quads i owned were a blast but man these big quads ride like a cadilac! I havent owned mine but for only 6 days but from what i hear they are really hard to hurt and are built to last......

I have replaced the carb boot/adaptor (before it cracked thru). Check that.
And the hall speedo sensors sometimes go out ($50 part).

Also the water pump cover should be metal replacement of the leaking original plastic cover.
This was a Tech Service Bulletin for early models.

The crank breather should be omitted for colder climates this was also a Tech Service Bulletin (TSB).

Welcome! I am new also and love the great info here. I have an 03 700 with 4500, yes 4500 miles, and it still runs awesome. I bought it with high miles, and have had no problems with it. I live in Minnesota, so I heard about a cold weather carb kit that the dealer can install-WELL worth it! $150 to have it run like summer time when it is 0 degrees.
