They strap on a guns and badges every day and are prepared to put their a$$ on the line possibly for you or your family, so lets be a bit more selective when we label ALL cops as a$$holes!
well said! I have a lot of cop friends, some more aquaintences. most are "good" cops, but a few are genuine self serving jerks, taking full advantage of the badge and abusing their authority. most decent cops definately have better things to do then hassle ATV riders, but the bottom line is they are paid to enforce the law and protect civilians, serve and protect. an ATV and its rider can create a hazzard in certain traffic situations regardless of how careful the operator is and as said above, multiple complaints need to be followed up upon. this doesn't mean the officer has to get stinky or start making threats, he would have made a much better impression had he been understanding and respectful, but it works both ways. up here in the sticks I ride my machine on the paved road unregistered and only get waves and smiles from the cops, small town perks, they know I'm not tourturing the neighbor hood and they leave me alone, a mutual respect. we have family property and animals so it's sort of an agricultural machine as opposed to a toy.

cops are people too, many genuinely are here to serve and protect us and chose their career for admirable reasons. they risk their lives everyday, think about it, just by putting on the uniform they are becoming a "target" in a sense, the thread title demonstrates that quite clearly. making such broad comments is both inaccurate and volatile.

He is probably just annoyed with people who say "like" all the time.

Walk allong the side of the running quad while feathering the throttle. If you see the Law, shut it off.

A few years back, I walked beside my wheeler, feathering the gas on my way to the store to get gas. Did the same on my way home, until I noticed a few girls walking down the street. So of course I thought I had to show off. So I jumped on my 86 350x, rode a wheelie until 3rd, set it down and started haulin... I just hit 6th gear and happen to look over on a side street.. and theyres a cop just sitting waiting for me. So I just held it wide open for about a mile and headed off onto a trail. The cop ended up going to my house, where my mother narced on me. Needless to say I got 8 tickets, and 40 hrs community service. Evan if you do outrun them... You still may get caught. I've learned my lesson, but NY is definetly too strict on wheelers. Snowmoblies can ride on the sidewalks, but we cant cross the road, makes no sence.

And again, its all in how a Cop presents himself, no doubt that cop could have been more Professional.

Anyway, just a look from his side.
I could not agree with this more.

snowmobiles ride on snow and don't do any damage to the ground, usually anyway, and I find it hard to believe they are allowed on the sidewalk. they come through my yard and as long as they stay on the trail I don't mind. myself I never got into the sport, too freakin' seasonal! ATV laws are usually written to either protect the environment or for safety and liability reasons. here in MA the tires of ANY vehicle can't touch public roads unless registered, inspected and insured, ATV's cannot travel any public roads unless marked otherwise. there are still some state forests that permit ATV use but not many. one of those situations where careless riders have ruined it for all the others.

I think the point is here is that there are two different set of standards. A "hi how ya doin" for sleds and a"Hey what are you delinquints doing" for ATVs.

There is no doubt that ATVs can do more damage than sleds, but only by a few irresponsible morons. Most of us are property owners, have families and care about protecting other folk's property like it was our own.

The way the"greenies" talk about ATVer's you'd think we were all drugged up, boozed up environmental destructionsists.

But you know if we applied those same attitudes to peoples of the races, and reglions in society they would hang us out to dry. Seems to me the rules outta be the same for everybody.

And yes as somebody said before maybe the police should be out there looking for real crime! I work as a corporate auditor in the banking industry, so I am sort of a company cop, and the one thing I can tell you is when you find things wrong you gotta learn to pick your battles! Look at the big picture!!!!
