Default Rattle and Vibration in the 05 Sportsman

The lid to my front storage compartment puts out a real bad rattle. In this case it seems to be much worse on the left side but I'm not sure if this is just a coincidence or not. I have check and the lock down mechanisms are fully turned into the closed positon. It didn't seem to do it too badly when I first got it in the fall so I'm wondering if this is a cold weather phenomena or something more. Anyone have the rattle and if so, have you found a cure? Thanks.

On the "oldies" like my 03, we use 1/4 foam tape in between rattling plastic and it cured the rattling hatches on my Kimpex delux trunk.

Are you quite sure it's the front storage lid. Mine does the same thing & it's driving me nuts. I notice mine during
take off & running along slowly at 5 - 10 mph, it sounds like it's coming from the headlight pod or the steering stem
ect. A few others that I ride with have the same machine (2005 sportsman 700 efi) & they complain about his same issue. Note: The 2005 500 sportsman does not produce this noise. I'm stumped as to where the rattle/ vibration is coming from. I have purchased a roll of the foam tape & tried this with complete failure. Last fall I removed the entire rear rack assy. & installed foam tape throughout, thinking that is where the sound was coming from. Guess what.. it's still quite evident in the front area.

Can't give you any specific solution (sorry) but just the observation that all the Polaris twins I've owned and driven have been prone to noise and rattles. That engine has a lot of vibes at certain rpm, and fasteners tend to work loose. It takes constant maintenance to keep after the noises.

the front rubber mount that holds the exhaust on fell apart. It was the round rubber pad. It sounded like some thing was loose around the steering stem

Mine did the same thing at low RPMs. Very loud vibration/rattle that went away at higher RPMs. The right side plastic mount melted (below the gas tank)
I finally figured it out by holding my knee against it.
Also if you have a winch make sure the hook is not loose and rattling at the fairlead - when I heard that I thought the noise was back
