clutching

Hi there, new the the site as a member, been reading for awhile. Got a question for the Clutch experts out there. I noticed a bit of a slip when i press the throttle until the clutch "catches" up. I kinda figure this is normal but hill's I used to go up I don't make it anymore, Pulled the belt cover off to check the belt, didn't look too bad. Big question is: the Big pulley says TEAM on the backside, is this a stock Polaris unit? Also the Big spring on the front is a Blue color, Stock? I need to upgrade!!! Ride in Las Vegas NV, some pretty steep hills/cliff's believe it or not. I'm looking for good solid rock crawling/ sand dune torque. Is there such a set-up?

welcome to the forums,
hmm... the TEAM is a roller clutch. They're called "rapid reaction" clutches and are AWESOME! the blue front spring should be factory blue/green. If it is a deep blue, it is not factory and explains the lag, because the blue primary has HUGE lag compared to stock. If you do have the factory blue green spring, it is likely the belt,(i think blue/greens have a green stripe? with a blue spring... it's been a while guys, sorry) i dunno much about the specs of the belts, but it could be worn. that Roller should be the hot setup for pretty much everything (except maybe gas milage) because the whole thing about roller clutches is their ability to backshift instantaneously. Those things are awesome. It may help to know the year, make, and model. Thanks! hope that helps a little.

So does that mean the "TEAM" stamp is the $h!t and should be left on there? What has worked well for you for springs/clutch weights? My spring is a solid light blue. I read threads about Scrams popping a wheelie, mine is definitely not there!!! It's a '02 Scrambler 500 HO 4X4, white Brothers E-series slip on, K&N filter. Dyno-Jet set up. Hope this helps

yes, the Team rapid reaction secondary clutch is an awesome addition to any Polaris vehicle. I am running one myself as you can see in my sig and LOVE IT. Hard to believe that your rig won't wheelie. Mine cannot keep the front tires down from a stand still and at anything below about 30 if i can get traction enough i can lift the wheels. My scrammy is 2x4, but i wouldn't thing the 4x4 would be enough to make you unable to wheelie! i've used the black/white primary spring from Dalton industries with the stock weights and was happy with that for midrange power. your best bet may be to contact rick ritter and talk to him as he is our local clutch guru. he can fix you up for whatever type of riding you want to do. for rock crawling i'd leave it like it is, but for sand... probably a black/white with some heavier dalton weights. (dalton's weights are awesome, but costly, and that's why i never played w/ them...) hope that helps.

Polaris does use a TEAM secondary but in most cases it is the same clutch as any clutch unles it is a newer big quad or an EFI.
Change the belt and take the secondary apart and check the ramp buttons.
