Like My 500 has there is something that opens the exhaust valve to loose compression to make it able to turn the engine over by hand

The Griz does not have a compression release.

The 500 efi will not start without power from the batt. It needs enought power to get the fuel pump going. How often would you really kill the batt enought not to run it.

Too bad they didn't use a "batteryless EFI" like my arctic cat sled. You pull it over once to charge the ignition and then release and pull a second time and it starts right up.

When your battery is dead in the middle of nowhere you can pull on a recoil alot harder then you think I once pull started a 90hp outboard motor. My dealer said he can get everything needed to but a recoil on my 02 sp700 for $325.

Ok my Buddy has a brand new grizz 660 that we just changed oil on, "Hookestras Custom Farming" and it pulls easier then you might think... go try one out

I have three buddies with Grizzlies and none them can be pull started. On another site I asked another Griz owner if he can pull start his.....the answer was no. Maybe I'll post the question over in the Yamaha forum and see what we come up with.

On the newer models, whether carb or EFI, if the battery is COMPLETELY dead, you CAN NOT pull start it. Don't quote me on this but I think this started in '04 maybe. If I remember right the newer design allowed a stronger charging system. The trade off was that if the battery is low, even too low to crank it over, it will still usually pull start; but not if it's completely dead.
