02' Sportsman 700 runs 1/2 throttle
Hey Guys,
My 700 hasn't been run much the last couple of years. It runs fine up to 30 mph, then it's like you cut the key off.
You can let off and it will catch up and run fine at about half throttle. I'm guessing a carb cleaning. Any other suggestions or bugs I should look for?
I'm new to the forum, ya'll have a great thing goin'.

If it has sat for more than a month or so, the fuel has probably gummed up the carburetor. It sounds like the main jet is clogged in the carb. Appparently the pilot jet is still open which allows it to idle and run up to half throttle. If the fuel has been in any length of time I would drain it all out and replace it. Use a good fuel stabilizer,(sea-foam,Stabil etc.) or make sure you all the fuel out or both before storing it for a month or more. Today's gasoline has a very short shelf/storage life. It works well in our autos which rarely ever have the same tank of fuel for more than a couple weeks tops, but not so well in our equipment that only sees occasional or seasonal use. Good luck, sounds like your on the right track.
