Explain "Backshift" to me please. Do I need a clutch kit?

Sure you can but you will lose the EBS function by swapping out the driven clutch for an Aaen roller system. Some engine braking has been reported but it is not as dramatic as the EBS system.

You might try changing the spacers within your drive clutch and putting on a new belt to see if that helps to stop the lag.
