The expedition has to be more reliable than the other polaris quads being that its 5 speed. How does it do against the other quads what are the pros and the cons and should i get it or a honda foreman

you need to realize the reliablility thing is blown way out of proportion, and may have been a problem in the past but i havent experienced it yet,3 ride(polaris) in our group..my quad is as reliable as any other out there,it has never let me down, nor did my magnum before this 1 leave me in the woods stranded..the expedition is a great quad, havent had any problems with it and couldnt ask for a better quad..what would you like to know about it?

True the auto tranny is very reliable, i doubt you will get any more reliability out of the 425 Magnum than say the Sportsman. I have had two Polaris quads and never had any trouble with either belt tranny, neither do anyone i ride with, also have two 1989 Indy Sports and the only thing I have replaced are belts. Polaris makes an awesome belt drive tranny. I have total faith in it. but the Xpedition is a nice ATV, but I would not buy one just because you think you might get more reliablity out of the 5-speed.

Drive both first you might love the auto tranny I know I did. Well the Foreman is nice but it won't have the power, and the true 4x4 and the ride. if taking a passenger is something you might like to do Polaris has a way bigger seat. My girlfriend and I sat on a Foreman and she was on the rack and on the polaris we both fit great. she is only 5 foot 3 and I am 5 foot 10. I looked at a Foreman and Then I drove the 250 Xplorer 4x4 and bought it right then, it felt more powerful , was quicker and had a way better ride.

I really like my Xped425 and have had good luck with it. I was thinking the same way you are, would rather have gears but hindsight being 20/20...I sometimes wish I had a SP500, mainly for the ground clearance(I like mud) but the ride on the SP500 is second to none(IRS). But if you still prefer gears, the Xped is a fine choice.

I have owned a Big bear, and currently own a Xpedition and a 300 Fourtrax (Honda). I love all ATVs, but the Polaris is most comfortable and has the best 4wd (awd) system. I too was once a little worried about reliablity but Polaris has proven the nay sayers WRONG.
My advise: test ride every ATV you can (all brands), then buy the one you like.
All brands have pros and cons,me, I like my Honda better in the woods and the Xped for open areas.
Every thing is an opinion here, and the best opinion for your ATV is your own.

I have an xpedtion 425 great quad!!! I have 1800 miles on it no problems what so ever. I ride in lots of water, mud, up hills, extreme heat, - dgree temp. I ride my quad hard it stands up to anything. I would not have any other atv in the world.

I have a Sportsman H.O. and my 12 year old son has a 425 EXP with an H.O. cam. The 425 EXP is basically the same, crank up as the Sportsman and the 500 Scrambler, so hot rod parts are available.
What the EXP doesn't have is enough gears. It needs to be a 6-speed + reverse. That's a lot of gears, but 1st is a granny gear, as it should be, and the remaining gears only get you up to 52-54 mph. My H.O. will do 65 mph. But the EXP has guts and the best 5-speed auto clutch in the ATV world. It all boils down to...Do you Gotta Shift?
If you Gotta Shift, The EXP gives you the Polaris
ride and handling and lets you shift. But my H.O. will kick that EXP's hiney, unless my 12 year old is riding it. I can't keep up with him.

I bought a 425 this summer. It's a great machine, but don't let the belt tranny scare you. They are reliable, and work great.

I bought my exped 425 cc 5-speed in march 2 years ago. I like it very much. It has lots of power. Its not going to beat some of the large atv's in a
race but it does go very fast. Yes, I have had trouble with it. Mostly first time factory trouble
which they have now solved on the 425's they sell now. To me the only thing it does not have that the sp500's have is ground clearance; the sp'500s have more. I have always drove the exped. out of the woods. I have over 1000 miles on it. I have drove it in some really rough terrain to. What can
I say. I love mine.... rangerchet
