Hi I have a 2003 Sportsman that I purchased recently the unit was brand new still in the box, It has about 15 hours on it and has always run like a bear. Recently it just died on the trail no chug, no back fire nothing just quit. I let it sit a few minutes it started back up. We rode another 10 minutes it died , would not start again. pulled spark plug looked at it and put it back in started right up. Ihave since put 3 new spark plugs in it, I have cleaned and washed the air filter, re sealed up the air box (from water). We took it out today and it died 2 minutes in. Brought it home it started back up. The plug seems to be fouling really easy. Wow is this frustrating. Please Help!

if its fouling the plug chances are that the float is out of wack or maybe some dirt got in the needle. either way you maybe want to take the carb off to clean it.

 

ARE YOU SURE IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SPARK PLUG...........it may be a pinched gas vent line also...this will cause it to run for a little while until the tank needs air..........try to take the gas cap off when it happens again then start it up to see if it will run.......just another thought to throw at you............caper...........................If you plug is BLACK and WET that is more likly your problem though!!!!!!!!!!

It was the carburetor, I removed it and cleaned it all up. The machine is running very nice now. I had problems initialy getting the unit running with the new carb, I found a little gas poured down the cylinder head done the trick.
