Default 2005 Polaris ATP 500 H.O. and Sportman 50 Review wanted

I have a chance to buy a new 2005 Polaris ATP 500 H.O. for $5,500 and wondering if this is a good deal and how these machines are. I currently have a 200 Big Bear 400 4X4. I think the Polaris list for about 7000.00.

Can you help me??

Also, I have a chance to buy a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 50 for my son and not sure about these atv's. They are a 2 stroke and I am looking at them to go trail riding with my boys. Is this a good atv to buy?

Thanks for your help

Default 2005 Polaris ATP 500 H.O. and Sportman 50 Review wanted

Hello bassinms, we (I bought it, my son rides it) have a 2005 500HO ATP. He really likes it. It is a true workhorse. We ride in New England. Not a lot of sand. Has plenty of rocks, steep hills, soil or clay mud, lots of water crossings. We were just up at our clubs trails in Claremont, NH this past Friday. Two major rainstorms left huge pond sized mudholes on the trails we were on. We crawled rocks, went up and over roots and downed trees, and went through headlight deep water/mudholes. Neither my X2 500 EFI or his 500 HO ATP had any problems with anything we threw at 'em including a dirt road where we could open them up. The only criticism I have about his quad is that it has a smallish 3.5 gallon tank. I made a carrier to carry 3 Blitz 2 gallon cans in his pickup bed. A couple of bungies through the handles and it stays on great. Problem solved. His straight axle rear is a little better than the independent rear for high speed cornering, but a little rougher over rocks and bumps. The bed on the ATP is big enough to strap in a couple of campfires worth of firewood for camping in the woods. All around a great quad that I would highly recommend. Better is if you could pick up a used Sportsman X2, because of the independent rear with the transforming pickup box/2 up seat. I've seen a couple on eBay that went for around $5900 slightly used. Hope this helps.
