MAP Sensor
I had to take my 2 week old x2 back to the dealer for service because it was running crappy. The service guy called and said they think they got it and that it was a Map sensor. My question is what is a Map sensor? I did a search and couldn't find any hits...got any ideas? Thanks

MAP reads manifold vacuum to make fuel adjustments. MAS reads volume of air entering the manifold to make the adjustments. Engines that rely on a MAP for adjustments generally need a programmer in the ECM (engine control module) for performance devices such as camshafts, exhaust. A good MAS system see more air coming in and adjusts itself, like a 89' 5.0 Mustang.

The only downfall of fuel injection is there is more crap to go wrong. Electronics being what they are, can fail at any time. They especially don't like water, mud, ect. I assume that it has a high pressure fuel pump on it to. Fuel injection is the way to go, most power and eff. Have you ever notice that when cars went fuel injected that engine life started getting longer. It is not unusual to see 250,000 miles on a gas engine that has never been into. Also oil has improve alot in the last years.

Yep defective MAP sensor, and while I was talking to the service guy he commented about the early ECM problems. It does appear that Polaris has addressed the ECM's early in 06' but the service tech said they still see a few bad MAP's. Hopefully I'm all done with trips to the dealer!!
