Default Cvt transmission questions.

Ozark,

I understand what you're saying. When I had a Honda Rancher with Electronic (manual) shifting, I could let the engine rev out in 2nd gear at 15 mph or I could lug the engine in 5th gear at the same speed. So, just like a car, you control the engine speed with the gear you choose.

With the Polaris automatic, the clutch selects the rpm. Mine engages at about 1600 rpm but the ATV won't start moving until about 2200 rpm. When I cruise through my neighborhood, I hold the speed down to 10 mph but the engine is turning 3200 rpm, albeit at a very light throttle setting. With the Honda Rancher, I could putt throught my neighborhood at 10 mph with the revs at about 1500.

You can change the way your Polaris shifts by replacing springs and weights in the clutch. Other than that, engine rpm is up to the clutch.

If you really want help, you'll pull the clutch cover off and look. If not, stop wasting the time of the good people on this forum. By the way give this information to your local repair shop and see what they say. I think they will say we need to take a look inside the clutch cover. Best of luck. Doc
