Float arm adjustment
#1
I am having some trouble with my Polaris 250 1990, I have rebuilt the carb and the engine is still flooding with gas. I was told to adjust the float arm but I do not know how exactly, does the needle have to be fully depressed when the arm is exactly level?? Meaning when the carb is upright like it is in the quad, the float arms should be level and fully depressing the needle which it contacts?? I had her started but it would not stay running and then just will not start with back firing and excess fuel coming out into the air box..Thanks for help ahead of time.

i have a xplorer 300 2-stroke and I had to bend the float tangs well up past level to get the needle to seat and stop the flow of gas(mine would just run gas out of the overflow tube until i turned off the fuel petcock). Might take some experimentation to get the right level of fuel in the bowl(so your not starving for gas when accellerating) ... seems like the floats may be a little weak.

i agree w/ krammer. float may be a little worn out. did you put a new needle and seat in when you bebuilt it? and yes the needle has to be completely closed when its leveled out or at least this is how the gas is turn off until the level drops enough to open it back up.
