4 wheel drive question 2001 Polaris Sportsman HO
I recently purchased this bike... I cannot tell if the 4 wheel drive is working since I have not put this bike in the mud just yet.... I noticed the other day that the shaft was spinning that heads to the front wheels...Still I don't know if something has to engage on the front end gearbox or is there some type of 4 wheel engagement at the primary gearbox. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Kyle

4 wheel drive question 2001 Polaris Sportsman HO
Hi Kyle,
It is normal for your shafts to turn at all times, the locking is done from the front wheels. There is a magnet in each wheel that locks the 4wd when switch is on and rear wheels turn 1/5 more then front. Make sure your oil in each from front hub is clean and bearings are properly torqued. It'll ensure proper operation of 4wd.
Hope this helped

to tell if the awd is working, just back up to spin the wheels(full throttle to get them to spin w/override pushed in) and and then try it w/ the awd drive button pushed. if its working then you shouldnt spin any wheels while in awd. just becareful it doesnt throw you of the bike when you try to back up.

My neighbor had the same question. Two of us picked up the back end of the machine and he tried to drive off in 2wd. Then switched to AWD and did the same thing. You will know if the AWD is working. A floor jack will do the same thing if you don't have strong neighbors.
I hope this helps
