A couple of us were out riding the trails in the hills of western Pa today. Fairly deep snow, probably around a foot. The snowmobiles had broken a good path for us. I was on my ho, my brother on my 2000 grizzly and two others on a quadracer250 and a warrior. About 2 hours into the ride my belt just exploded. I stopped immediately. The belt was in about 10 pieces. The sportsman only has 30 miles on it. My grizzly was able to pull me about 5 miles out of the woods. To bad, it was a great day to ride. Grizzly wins today!!!!

Make sure your dealer installes a new one for you. They have a lifetime warrentee on the belts now. (That is if I remember right)

Yeah, I believe there is a lifetime-no questions asked belt warranty on all the 2001 Polaris's.

I am curious, were you riding in high or low during this 30 miles. You should almost always use low unless you're on smooth hard pack. It's not geared the way the your Grizzly is.

A dealer I talked to said the lifetime warranty was parts only after the first 6 months of the factory warranty-is this true or not?

It would be kinda inconvenient to haul your bike down to the shop just to put on a new belt even if the dealer offered to.

how would burning a belt cause "creeping"?? i thought "creeping" was from too high of idle and the primary clutch engaging at idle.

wouldent burning the belt like u described just put a flat spot in the belt??

later

I agree, wouldn't the creeping be from too high an idling speed? Also, a flat or burned spot would result from hard throttle usage in a no move situation. I burned my first belt after about 1500 miles on my SP 500 because i had restricted air flow into the belt housing, causing a heat build-up. I know better now, and have since modified the clutch cover with an auxilliary vent near the rear, under the seat via a PVC elbow facing rearward. I think that clutch system could use alot of fresh air due to the extreme amount of friction that takes place in a CVT.
