Break in period on rebuild
#11
The rings are what you're trying to break in on a 2-stroke and the piston!! If you just bring it up to temp and then just bang on it you may actually break a ring or worse yet break a piston skirt!!! And lets not forget the temperment of a 2-stroke...if it's bored out you have to check and recheck your jetting so you don't do a lean Burn down!!! You do the research I did!! And 95% of 2-stroke builders will recomend the warm it up and do up to quarter throttle runs for 10-15 minutes, shut it down while still @ 1/4 throttle, pull the plugs read them, adjust jetting accordingly (if needed)put them back in and let it cool(do this after each running cycle). Then warm it up and do up to half throttle runs, repeat above procedures. Then up to 3/4 throttle runs, repeat above. Then full throttle runs...repeat above... During ALL of these runs vary the throttle constantly!! Now, some say mix a little oil in the first tank and some don't?? If you're running premix I don't see why this would be necesary as to too much oil will create heat in the motor!!

over the last week i have started it warmed it up and it sat again, i ran a 100 jet before rebuild and am currently running a 130, after about 10 minutes of idle and a trip up and down the road i was still able to put hand on exhaust. i filed a plug almost right off the bat but i did use a lot of oil putting it all back together. never really brought it above 5,000 rpm til about 2 hours after i started ridin. did discover yesterday i am definitely lookin into a clutch kit, with the bigger jet the motor doesn't like low rpms at all. once it gets up to around 3000 rpm it's front wheel off the ground and hold on, and the lumberjack tires i got grab like no other in the mud icy conditions i was in, hills my buddies were getting stuck on, i could stop half way up it, hit the gas and keep goin again

as long as you have a good gas and good oil supply and dont beat the hell out of it and dont keep a constant rpm on 2 strokes their pretty reliable. if the rings dont get broke in good they wil have less compression and will use oil more. at least that swhat i have seen in some cases. imo.

first thing is , i actually own a polaris 2 stroke! actually 3 and nobody here agrees with your method as being best or even good, go post in the" i wish i had a polaris" forum or actually get one b4 becoming an expert and then i might spend the time to help you too. until then your just a non riding post a holic to me who is on here to stir the pot

a good buddy of mine drag races,do you think they do a breaking before raceing a new engin or trans..call up jeff gorden and see how he breaks his in...lol.. its just a 2-stroke as long as you have plenty of oil you should be ok
i think people get wayyyyyy to carried away and worried about simple stuff..AFTER ALL IT IS A TOY!!!..
as far as my break in goes
#1 2-stroke mix oil rich, take alittle easy to op temp and then ride it normal
#2 4-stroke take it easy to op temp, ride it normal
..rocket science

poor rick's probably shakin his head on how we all recommend breakin one in. i never touched the bottom end and runnin good oil on 93 octane and took it easy the first couple hours. but i wasn't lettin a raptor 660 show up my 86 polaris 3 wheelin 250 dam it. after the kaw rolled down behind... i think 8 times as i watched from the TOP!!! so i just had to go up it one more time. so those two pulls at wot up a 100 yards steep *** hill was the only real woopin i put on it yesterday.
