This should end the topic. I ride with my friend who so happens to ride a Blue 2000 400 Kodiak(pics below) and he does not stand a chance in any situation and I have a slower bike than a 400 Xplorer. You do not have to take my word for it though because my friend is right here next to me now and wants to type a few words to you all.

Hi,I ride with Tim all the time and that big green beast of a bike he has just bitch slaps my poor little Kody any where we go.I wish I bought a Polaris now, but like they say hine sight is 20/20.

signed,
Tim's friend.

Well there you have it boys,I hope this puts a end to all this talk.

Tim,

If you are one of the Houston guys coming to FWP this weekend, Hydro will be there on his SP335, and he will run around a Kodiak all day in the mud, and then pull you out.

ok, let me ask you a question, Where does alcohol come into this question with atvs. Your just be a bad role model,(like u already have for riding Polaris). Now, I am only 20 years old and yes I am experienced with four wheelers. I have rode polaris and Honda. Honda has much more low end, that would be good for hills. They are a lot less tippy. And in mud, well you should be able to figure out why honda is better since you have been driving atvs for 18 years. And everyone in here says, " oh I beat this honda at this and that and mine was faster", If you think about it maybe you are just a better driver than the one on the Honda and the reason they got one is because they want something that will last more than 3 years, unlike a polaris, just look at all the post, every other one says something is wrong with my polaris or how do I fix this. thats all have to say. Bye

Sorry guys but the Kodiak is little, and it is tippy. It doesn't power slide like a Polaris, and it is physically smaller, and/but lighter, it is well built and smooth, but too small. My 80 lb 12 year old son rides a 425 EXP with an H.O. cam. It will devour a Kodiak, just as the 400 Sportsman will. Ask your wife, size matters.
But the Honda 45O is another matter, we ride with one, it has 6,000 miles on it and its' 275 lb rider takes it places I dare to tread in my H.O. Boulder faced rock strewn stream beds and places where he has gotten off and walked the 450ES over rocks the size of Volkswagon. Of course a hell of a lot of it is him. But the 450 es is a great machine, Except that the electronic shifter screws up every ride, that is.
Silly later,,,,Fourlix

luxuryrider,
In all the years I've been riding,I have not seen one Honda 4x4 ever out do me in the mud,I have however seen MANY a Honda 4x4 that spins only 3 wheels due to the limited slip front ends they have!Try passing your BS onto someone who does'nt have experience in mudding, but dont try that Honda BS about a Honda being a better mudder than Polaris on me!In plain english, stock Honda's dont out mud stock Polaris 4x4s.

Hills?
The larger displacement Honda 4x4s do well on hills, however,I'll climb the same hill easier on my Xplorer because I develope more wheel speed than ANY stock Honda 4x4.Low end has very little to do with climbing the long, steep hills, wheel speed is a better thing to have for this type of terrain.Sorry, you lose this one to!

I'll give you the reliability win though! Most Honda's have far less to go wrong with their ATVs.There just to simplified. They have a track record for keeping the same BORING ATV around for yrs [300 4x4 Honda?] without any change at all.I have seen many a Honda owner sit on the side and WATCH Polaris guys while they play in the mud.Im wondering if this also plays a factor in the longivity of a Honda?

I don't see the point in comparing a 2-stroke semi sport to a utility Kodiak anyway. I personally don't want chain drive 2-stroke, although their fast. As for speed, I've outrun every sp 500 non HO that I've rode with. In regard to size, My buddies who used to ride 2000 sp 500's (which they sold), were being kicked off the narrow trails in high mountains because of the width and they slid down STEEP hills out of control at times. We would all go around a rock, stump etc., but the same rock would kick the sp off the trail and into a dangerous situation because of the width. Thus, in our area, bigger is not better when it comes to atv's. As for weight issue, I think that is common knowledge. The Polaris claim to fame is mudding to which they are amazing in the mud. All I can say for the Kodiak is it is super dependable so far with only a rear pad at 700 hard miles and No slippage with water /mud up to seat. The key is which bike will still be running 10 years from now. I feel Polaris is a good machine and improving, but when it comes to longevity, my money's on a Yamaha.

Do you have rocket boosters on you Kodiak or what to be able to out run a SP 500 non-H.O? I have raced the Kodiak so many times with the same results all the time.Go to the Yamaha forum and every Kodiak owner will agree it tops out at a little over 50mph on a good day. I easily hit 55mph and also get there faster than the Kodiak hits it,s 50mph.
