Default Polaris 800 Battery

My 06 Polaris 800 battery wont hold a charge. It will accept a charge but in a day, its gone. Not sure if something is causing it to drain or not. Last year, the dealer checked this out and said all seemed fine....Anybody out there had this problem with the 800 Sportsman????? Anyway, Where is the best and cheapest place to find a replacement battery to buy? I live in Downeast maine but close to Bangor.

Thanks in advance,
Will

you might have a broken plate in your battery, or a wire short. Also, when your dealer set-up the machine he might not have charged the battery correctly. they are supposed to charge them for about 10 hours at 1 amp, if they didn't the battery will never charge fully or last as long as a properly activated battery.

I ACTUALLY HAD A BATT TAKE A S##T WHEN I LEFT A TIMING LIGHT ON IT OVERNIGHT,WHO KNEW?? ANYWAY I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY BEATING THE HELL OUT OF IT CONSIDERING I HADE NOTHING TO LOSE, CONVENTIONAL CHARGING WAS GOOD FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS THEN CLICK CLICK,CHECKED ALL WIRING,CLEANED ALL CONN.SO I CHARGED THE SH#T OUT OF IT+ITS BEEN FINE EVER SINCE,THAT WAS 6 MONTHS AGO+I CAN LEAVE IT ALONE FOR WEEKS+IT STARTS RIGHT UP FAST.I START AT 2A FOR 3HRS,THEN 15A FOR 1HR,THEN WHAT EVER YOUR HIGHER AMPS ARE (MINE WAS 40amps,i would'not go over that) FOR A MIN AT A TIME,10MIN REST,1MIN again, 10MIN REST I DID THAT4 TIMES THAN AFTER THE LAST 10MIN REST BACK TO 15A FOR 1HR,OR 2A FOR 3HRS,OF COURSE DISCONNECT THE HOT CABLE OR BOTH cables, OR YOU WILL BLOW SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU START TO LOSE FLUID GO TO LOWER SETTING BUT MINE DID NOT.

Thanks guys. I have tried to discharge, then recharge and it didnt help. Ive done the on-board diagnostic and can watch the battery discharge down to about 9v, after Ive charged it fully, and then it seems to linger there, which isnt enuff to really turn over the machine, although, it sometimes starts to turn over VERY slowly, then increases rpm's, and finally starts, which is why Ive lived with this issue for a year.......plus I'm a cheap BAS%@*!!!!!!! ;-)

hey Will long time. did make sure the bike is putting out at least 13+ volts when reved up a little to make sure the charging system is working? the batt. might be junk by the sounds. just make sure when you do buy another battery that it has the same CCA as the one thats in there and you have it fully charged before you use it. TBA in bangor on outter hammond street is a good place to buy batteries or maybe even vip. if the battery is truely junk and wont hold a charge, to make sure its not the wheeler, just unhook the pos. termial so it wouldnt be discharging.

Yeah, I'd like to show you this area before the Blueberry Barons shut off the Blueberry Barrens....... I'm gonna check out that place you mentioned, (TBA)( Is that the place called; Automatic Distributers????), on Hammond street for the battery replacement. Gotta go right by there this week. Always good to hear from you....Will
