i am looking to get some aftermarket rims & tires.. i think im going to get some 27" kenda executioners and i havent decided on the ITP 112 or 212 rims.. from what i understand the tires run around 1" short but are kind of heavy, i dont think they will be too much..
what are your oppinions, will a clutch kit be necessary, will i have any rubbing issues??

I don't think you'll need a clutch kit for the 27s but would for 28s. Those are awesome looking tires.

With aftermarket rims, your offset will accomodate the 27's. You don't "have" to get a clutch kit, but after you do this you will "want" to get one! LOL! You will notice the power loss and as long as the dealer installs the clutch kit you shouldn't have to worry about the warranty......

I put 24" Swamp Fox's on the Hawkeye we had, and there was a major reduction in acceleration. I had to trim the rear fenders for these tires, which measured more like 25". I really couldn't imagine fitting 27" tires on the Hawkeye, and then having to deal with the affects it will have on power output.

I think Stendori tried putting 27" tires on his '08 Sportsman 400 HO, and they didn't fit well at all, I think.

My bad, didn't pay attention to the sp500. I was referring to the 700 or 800. But, I think they are still okay????

Gunnsmoke,

Sorry, I looked in your list and saw the Hawkeye and no Sportsman. I haven't noticed any difference in power in going from 25" to 26" on my 500. So I don't think there will be a problem with power when going to a 27" setup. There shouldn't be any rubbing if you use the ITP rims. Stock rims, yes. Good luck!

I hear ya, I stay away from first year production too. Especially when they make power upgrades! LOL!
