Default DANG!THE DEALERSHIPS ARE DROPPING LIKE FLYS HERE

6 years ago we lost our local POLARIS dealership,MOOSEHORN TRADINGPOST in JAY ME.Having two MAGNUMS,Ihad to travel 30 miles or so for stuff. No one took on the POLARIS line,i heard they required a mega amount of inventory ,no one could afford it.
We moved our shopping to GAGNES in MADISON ME.Went in for a recall job, then low and behold 3 weeks later they foldup. They were a long time dealer, that tryed to take on bombardier too,in recent years ,as well as sell campers.
Last week i rode down to TURNER and I notice PAULS ARCTIC CAT IS AN EMPTY SHELL I dont know if they folded ,moved or what ,no relocatoi sign on the door
Today Iwas told EAGLES HONDA ,BOmBARDIER AND YAMAHA went belly up.Cant confirm but heard it from two sources
Not much left in MY AREA,at least 30 to 40 miles to ANY dealership .Afew after market mechanics around,if you want to call em that.Thank god for internet parts and that im MECHANICALLY inclined i guess.Any one seeing dealerships close near you?

In a recession the toys are the first to go and quickly.

I live in one of the most economically depressed areas of the country and can still get almost any brand of ATV locally. For now. The Gander Mountain store quit selling Arctic Cat and have NO ATVs now. That's a bad sign and maybe more dealers are going to close. I hope not because I really like having lots of them to choose from.

The owner of the Yamaha dealer in Modesto ca, (about 35 miles from where i live) commited suicide about 6 mos ago.. He was selling atv's, rhinos and dirt bikes like it was going out of style, then it quit . Family members said he couldnt handle the loss of business.

Actually the dealerships here are expanding! Went into my dealer Saturday and asked him when the new quads were coming from Polaris and he told me "they better get here soon, I don't have anything left!" and he doesn't, I think I counted 6 new machines left including Artic Cats! He normally inventories 150+ quads and all the Rangers he can get his hands on! Earlier this spring he sold 79 Rangers in a 30 day period and could have sold more if he had them!
I live in Iowa in the middle of the best farm land on earth...with $5.50 corn, ($1.90 a year ago!), and $15.00 beans, ($6.50 a year ago), the economy around here is hoppin'!
Not sure how long this will last, but John Deere, (their tractor works is just South of us in Waterloo IA.), projects the next 3 years to set all time sales records each year! Their Tractor and combine production is all ready sold out for '09 and '10!

I live in PA and there is only one polaris dealer near me anymore as well, there used to be 6.The one nearest me ( patt and sons) all but ruined my quad and took parts off to boot,They told me the parts were not on when I brought it in,they were a skid plate and motor mount!! COME ON!! So now I wolnt go there anymore. They to are now branching out to campers to try and compensate for loss of sales and shady buisness practices. There is a honda shop nearby but they wolnt sell polaris parts or work on them. The next nearest one is about 30 miles away. This recession is killing us around here.Another local prominate retail chain is going out of buisness due to failing sales and we have no more hardware stores as well, which come in handy if you have to do any last minute modifications on ride day.You can only send jobs out of the country for so long and not expect any consequences!!!! For now though my polaris is running great and in the future will have to rely on the internet for parts and my inginuity to keep it running, including the help I get on this site.Everyone has been great in sharing information and ideas as well as hooking me up with hard to find parts. Its an 86 with mostly metal parts, not like the newer ones with plastic racks etc.HAPPY TRAILS!!!!
