1996 Sportsman 500 No spark
Hi, working on a Sportsman for a friend, they claim it was running fine, idling for a minute while fencing and just died. Haven't had spark since. I unplugged the black wire off the cdi to check switches, no change, also tried disconnecting the black wire from the hub safety switch, no change. Resistance between white and white/red wire from cdi trigger coil is within spec, air gap is correct. It's not getting any power from the cdi to the ignition coil. I also removed flywheel and inspected stator and flywheel, everything appears to be ok. I even swapped in another cdi that I had lying around which I think is good, no change. Anyone have any more tests I can perform, before just guessing the stator is bad? Thanks, Jared

Also is charge coil (green, red, black with red stripe) within specs? Have had trigger coils good, but charge coil bad before! Grounds to coil good? plug wire good? Could possibly be coil, but usually pretty durable! Make sure raised spot on flywheel free from rust, can also cause spark loss. Only things can think of at this time! Good luck Keep us posted

Miniupdate-
Red to Green at CDI 4.7ohms
Black/red to Green 6 mohms (I'm assuming that's milliohms? My multimeter is an auto ranging unit, had a little m in front of the upsidedown horseshoe)
If that is an actual unit of resistance measurement, then I'd bet that's no good right?
I think the owners had the stator redone by RM Stator just a few months ago. Ground to ignition coil is good, didn't check the plug wire because I wasn't getting any power to the coil. Sanded down the bump on the flywheel when I checked the pulse coil's gap. Thanks for the ideas OPT. I'll keep researching.......

I would appreciate the info. greatly. I talked to the owner today and he said he did have RM Stator rebuild the stator, but he thought that they did not replace the bobbins/exciter coils. Hopefully your information will back up my idea that one of them is bad. If so, I'll get a pair on order from Ricky Stator asap. Also, no wires so far are shorted to ground.
