07 800 Sportsman needs more rear spring
#1
Ok, Ive been reading all the back postings on rear suspension upgrads and this is what i have found. The problem is none give a deffinate answer at to what will work.
Some of you have said to use the entire x2 shock and spring setup which is about 1" taller.
Some have said to try the MV7 springs. Are they the same length as factory 07 springs?
Some have installed spacers. What size and type of material to use?
Some have gone with EPI aftermarket. Are they strong enough?
Some have gone with Highlifter aftermarket. Are they worth the price?
Some say that the Ranger springs will work too. Will they?
Like i said what works? What's worth the cost? And what rides the best?
Thanks all.

I can't speak to rear springs on an 800 but I put EPI HD Fronts on my ATP to compensate for the winch/mount/bg draggin down the front, I went from the progressive rate springs in front to a constant 90lb/inch spring and they prought the front right back to stock or a little higher and improved handling with no discernable degradation in ride quality. Polaris uses progressive weight springs on the front and rear of the sporty. What are you trying to do? You want more height, less compression, what are you looking for?
I'm not trying to be insulting but you've bumped the preload all the way up and it's still to soft?
With RE: Ranger springs. I don't think they would fit, and if they did they would be seriously harsh, a Ranger will tote 1000 or 1200 lbs in the bed, my dad's got a Ranger and the springs are WAY stiffer than what's under my sportsman, they are so stiff you can't adjust the preload with the backs on the ground.
If you go wth aftermarkets I can personally reccomend EPI, good customer service and knowledgable folks that are willing to talk to you, not just take your order.

I have the preload all the way up. with me 300# and the rear box full of gear another maybe 100# it squats bad. The rear frame is all beat up from bottoming out. I fugured the ranger springs were out of the question but you never know what some people will do. Just asking.

sounds like you need to find a heavier spring load(thicker wire size). look at what the weight limit is on the regual springs you have say comparing to the atp or x2 springs. maybe compare them to high lifter compressin rates. i would say spring spacers for the rear or front would be a waste of time and money in your case becasue of the extra weight it would just be too much. good luck.

After riding last night i ahve to do something. I cant ride with the old lady on the back. It bottoms out constantly and is basically to dangerous. I made here stay back and the party while i rode. I just didn't feel safe, The weird thing is that my scrambler was the exact opposite. it was better all over with a passenger.

It sounds like mine before I adjusted the rear shocks up fully. I weigh in at 300# and the wife goes 200# It gave me more clearance and rarely if ever bottom out. The one thing I don't like about it, it changed the way it handles when I ride alone, seems to be more squirrely, changing them back everytime I ride is not an option, adjusting them up took 5 men and a boy 2 hours to do good luck with the problem, oh yeah, anyone know where I can get a polaris wrench for adjusting the shocks? borrowed a buddys, Polaris don't sell the small one, just a large multi-purpose tool, need one for the trail

I use a pipe wrench or the Polaris tool but it NEEDS a cheater bar,no way you can turn it without one. I bought the HD springs from the dealer and no way you would want it set on the stiffest settings while riding even with a passenger.
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Some of you have said to use the entire x2 shock and spring setup which is about 1" taller. </end quote></div>
I think its the other way, the X2s have 8.5" travel rear suspension and the Regular 800 has taller 9.5" travel suspension. X2 800 vs SP800 specs.
I would just call your dealer and ask what HD springs they offer for your ATV.

The springs are adjusted up all the way. Pick up a sring wrench for a scambler. I welded an old socket to mine and now i can put a cheeter pry bar inside the socket and turn it. Whit me and my old lady. 300# and 175# my rear axles are lower than parallel.
