1999 POLARIS 400 SPORT QUESTION-having an issue and i know nothing about it...HELP
Ok, so I'm in a dilemma. i purchased this atv this past weekend and before i loaded it up in the truck we drove it around and everything ran good on it, except when you came to a stop and took your finger off the gas then it would die. well i drove home with it and the next morning we took it off the truck and it cranked up and i rode it for a little while and it ran good then. well it sat up for a few days and when i went to go crank it yesterday, it didn't do anything. the guy i purchased it from was having issues with the starter, but even with the pull start, it would turn over maybe 1 out of 15 cranks but wouldn't stay on. when the seller was loading into his truck, he broke the choke switch with it on. so because i know nothing, i'm hoping someone could give me a possible diagnosis with what possibilities could be wrong with it. thanks for the long read and also thanks for any responses!

is the choke switch on now? if so, it could be running a little rich. need to get that addressed asap. another thing to check for are air leaks. take some carb cleaner and spray around all gaskets, boots, and seals while the motor is running. if you can notice an increase in RPM's there is a culprit. if the bike has been sitting for a season or two i would take the carb apart and give it a thorough cleaning and make sure everything is the way it should be. the first thing to do tho is get on ebay and buy a manual for this beast. will save you alot of headaches down the road.
