cv joint ?
#11
it is on the back right side of the bike. put it on jack stand, removed tire, removed brake cal., removed pin then the nut so i could have a little more room to work with the cv joint. i cleaned the cv joint really good used a whole can of parts cleaner. repacked the joint with grease. but i have to go get an outer band for the boot. any tips on getting them on in that small of space. what do i need to use to put the band on with.

I too have had my axles apart a few times. My 02 500 started clicking after i backed up in a brush pile and put a hole in my boot with a stick. i didnt know that this happend and put it in the water a few times. If your joint is clicking im going to say that its not going to stop just by cleaning it out, the damage is already done. i took my joint apart, took all of the ***** out and the cage. The *****, cage and housing needs to be very smooth. if the cage has any wear then it will click. i was able to take a high speed polisher and smoothed out the grooves and *****. By doing this i got the clicking noise to quite down a considerable amount, but never got it to completly go away. A friend of mine has the same problem and he just lives with it. There is a clip that holds the shaft to the cage. If i remember right you need to expand that clip to get the shaft out of the cage. This is the part where you might need an extra set of hands.

well if you removed the wheel and the brake cal. and the nut then all you have to do is take out the to 2 pins that connect the a-arms to the wheel spindle... once you have done that then all you have to do is just pull the shaft out and then you have all the room in the world to work... the shaft comes out the same as the front ones... they just pull out... there is a special tool for putting taking those bands on and off but you can do it with needle nose pillars and a really small flat head screw driver...
but just like i and oatman98 said.... your probably wasteing your time.... unless you are willing to live with the clicking... its clicking bc of the wear thats already takin place... its the cage and the ***** catching and banging around in there now... ever thing in there has to be a tight fit and i mine tight... the clearance for the ***** in the cage is less the .0015" and now that every thing isnt so tight in there you are going to be more **** to breaking and you will just be doing this again...
well good luck anyways i hope some of this helps
