Default 1996 Polaris Xplorer 400L HELP!

Remember that book info may be about a 4-stroke...........This trouble is on a 2-stroke.......

............maybe the head is warped did you check the comp. lately? Or are you just going by what someone told you?............Caper..........</end quote></div>

The top end was rebuilt by the shop I had it in. I did not have the eqipment to rebuild an engine, so I had the do it for me.....so the top end is or should be in near perfect shape.

Default 1996 Polaris Xplorer 400L HELP!

Same happened to a friend. The antifreeze made it not run. It needed a new head gasket.

With no antifreeze it ran OK and idled fine. Put antifreeze in, and it would die and not start again. He put a new head gasket on and now it runs good. This was on a 2001 Xplorer 400.

Default 1996 Polaris Xplorer 400L HELP!

Ok. I have tried the crankcase bolt drain and got nothing out the bottom. I proceeded to pull the side case off to check the waterpump seal! Well when I got in there I found more than I wanted. The inner and outer seal from the crank, chewed up! the bearing behind the rcoil plate fell apart, no oil in the counter balance area. I have ordered all new seals and bearings, so I will reply when I get this repaired to let you all know the prognosis.....Also for fun I bought a no-foul plug adapter and the bike would run with min. problems but just ALOT of smoke......will update when the parts get here...............another thing, water pump seal and bearing were rusted.......

Thanks everyone

OK! I now have my Xplorer up and running!!!! YEAH! It was the water pump seals, the crankcase seals. I replaced dang near everything in the side case seal wise and it fixed the problem. No more smoke, and super quick revs. This is truly a great machine (when running right)! Thanks for all the input, and ideas from everyone. and if you have a problem on a 1996 polaris xplorer 400L 4x4, shoot me a message and I am pretty sure that I can help! I have been through mine inside and out! HAHAHAHA!

Thanks Again to ALL!
