I feel the rad on my '08 SP500 X2 is too small. Doesn't take much to make it ineffective.

They get plugged with mud from not being cleaned and it takes awhile to get them cleaned out, take the grill off the front and the side shields off and hose it out real well.

Does anybody know if there is a "limp mode" that the ATV goes into if the ECU senses and overtemp? Or is the crappy running just a direct result of the overheating? OPT?

Anybody learned the answer to this? I'm still curious if there is a "limp mode" that detunes the engine when its HOT or if the crappy running is a direct result of the overheating?

i know riding in snow is hard on a quad.. they are working twice as hard... for example.. just riding in a straight line in 20 degree weather was harder on my quad than in 36 degree weather mudding.. my fan didnt turn on once on the 36 degree day... but it was on alot in the cold... i think its all about traction and having to hold it wide open to go anywhere... and wide open your still only doing 35 mph... imo

They only over heat if the rad guard gets plugged with snow and stops the air flow to rad I find. They tried rads on the early liquid cooled sleds and they would cause over heating.

They finally just put heat exchangers above the track that relies on snow/slush spray from the spinning track to cool the exchanger.

A rad with the guards removed on a ATV would work better, because the snow would help cool the rad and would no plug the rad because the hot rad would melt the snow instantly.

I dug up this post because I am curious if there is a "limp mode". Perhaps I will just start a new thread.
