well i ended up goin to my polaris dealer, and the guy recommended just changing the primary spring, he sold me a dalton spring, it seems pretty good, its a higher engagement rpm which i wanted, but it always seems to rev high through the range of throttle, i lost about 5 mph top speed too... seems reasonable though it has a lot more torque in bottom and mid range, it spins the big lug tires like nothing in grass, and wheelies nicely in low so im happy...

the whole idea is to get a little higher engagement and keep the top rpms to where they belong and not to over rev the engine out of the hp range. the dalton spring is good for that if you get the right one. imo.

im runnin 28's on my grizzly 660 with a dalton clutch kit and pop wheelies all day long with it. I would go with the dalton clutch kit. Its also the easiest to tame as well.

I did the same as Stendori and others going with the Dalton spring (orange) only. I am running 27" Mudlites. I have come to an opinion though for hard rock/pack/gravel etc. with mountainous steep hills, I think my setup puts too much bottom end causing the Quad to thrust more in slow hill climbs. I think SP800 already have alot of that making steep hill crawling more of a challenge and it makes the bike lift up on the front end more. -- IMHO

I am NOT downing the clutch spring nor my SP800, please understand but I think alot of this stuff all depends on "how you ride" and "what type of riding you do"!

I am not sure what I want to do with mine yet, I need to talk to Rick too!

Regards,

R'

These clutches are more complex than just changing a primary spring. You need a good understanding on what does what before you mess with the clutches.
If not get a complete kit.

I just called Rick Ritter and I really appreciate his honestly. He recommended that I go back to stock in the rock/steep hill trails Vs. buying more parts.

Rick can guide you on your exact type of riding and what you need Vs. what parts dealers want to sell you and tell what you want to hear. -- IMO

ftwflh - That is a true statement about "knowing what you buy" BUT sometimes people don't expect varied degrees of results when they change up the riding they do. Case in point, I bought the Dalton orange spring to assist with my better MUD handling with my tire upgrades (27" Mudlites) but I didn't know it "could" be a disadvantage with hills. Rick even agreed it "could" but every situation is different.

Good thread!
