Hi all,
I'm "planning" to trade my Bombardier sled for a Polaris for next winter for one main reason. Bombardier parts are pure theft!! Even here in Quebec, it makes me sick to repair anything since it costs too much for the part. I don't care if a part is very expensive...but it has to be worth it!!!
Just for example. The tube that connect the ski swingarm to the chassis (there are 2 of them). This ridiculous stuff costs 140$can+tx.
Is it the same for Polaris parts, are they stupidly overpriced?
Thanks for input

OK. I'll change subject a little.
Does it happen often to you that you look for a part, no salesman can find it, you 've been looking for it for 2 weeks (no success), and when you (again) ask it to another salesman (saleswoman in this case), she says, it's 50$, what color do you prefer? All this in the same dealership. Weird.

From my experience, polaris parts are expensive also. Come to think of it, any parts for atv's, snowmobiles, or motorbikes are expensive. I think it is complete robbery. The problem with it is: YOU WANT TO PLAY, YOU HAVE TO PAY. I think that is the bottom line.

My buddy changed a few parts just lately on his machine, brake pads, a Tie rod and something else. The dealer told him he was lucky it wasn't a yamaha cause they are way more expensive than polaris. This I've been told.
By the way Zorro, I come from Beloeil,Que, southshore, about 20 mins from Mtl. I couldn't handle the political BS at the time so I moved out but it's a nice Province.

I have a Honda and Polaris. As a rule of thumb, just about everything (except for the starter) is from 1/4 to 1/2 less than on the Honda. Both machines are starting to get loose in the steering. I can get 2 tie rod ends for the Polaris for the cost of 1 on the Honda, with a few cents left over.
Also less than Yamaha. Knew a guy who had a U-joint go bad on his Yamaha (just needed the cross and caps) it was close to $70!!! He was having it fixed at a dealer that also carries Polaris. The mechanic told him if he had a Polaris, he could get the same part aftermarket (most Polaris parts like that are 'standard size' and will cross reference with Napa, Big A, etc. parts) and it would be only $18. He drove home later that day on a Polaris.

I cannot help you on your original question on snowmobile parts. As a general rule, if you want to play, you will pay, dearly. Have you had to buy any Yamaha parts for your Banshee yet? I owned a Yamaha street bike a few years ago. I finally got rid of it because the parts were so ridicuously outrageous to buy. A kit to rebuild the brake caliber (a few o rings and seals) was like $50. I put about $400 into that bike and decided enough was enough and sold it. I vowed to never own a Yamaha again. The parts all had to be shipped from Japan and took like a month to get anything. Polaris parts are a little high, but not out of line. As a general rule, Companies make good margins on parts and will try to get as much as they possible can out of them.

to bad theres not a on-line discount parts dealer for polaris. i wish someone could buy parts and accesories from the suppliers rather that through polaris. polaris seems to have a huge margin on there parts and accesories. it would be nice if u could buy the parts at a auto parts stores too.

later

The basic problem with parts for toys like atvs is supply and demand. The demand for parts for a 98 Polaris sport, as an example, is just not enough to encourage a lot of aftermarket suppliers to enter the market. In auto parts, there is enough cars on the road to justify some competition among the auto parts stores that you can get reasonable prices on aftermarket parts. If you don't think this is true, compare prices for parts for a Jeep Wrangler and a more popular vehicle. The Wrangler parts will be a lot higher because there is less of them on the road, thus less demand for parts. I hate paying through the nose for parts, but that is the name of the game.
