battery won`t charge

Default battery won`t charge

its a 02 polaris sportsman 500 and it won`t charge my batteries they go dead after about 6 or 7 starts and won`t charge,i have to put the battery on the charger then it will last 6or7 starts any help is appreciated.

This could be any number of things. The first thing that comes to mind is a bad stator, but that's just because I recently had to work on mine. It could also possibly be a rectifier or a few other things like that. Get it started and disconnect the battery. See what your voltage is at. Also see what the voltage is while the battery is running. If I am correct, the voltage should be around 13-14 volts. Someone else may be able to offer batter advice on this.

chances are the recifier is bad or maybe just unhooked or corroded connection. its not uncommon. look up under the front end under the rack and see if you see a black(i think)box w/ a wire harness in it and check that. imo

My battery had no water, after adding distilled water it works fine.

So check you water level within your battery.

same happened to me. just added water and went back fine again.

Probably the regulator - rectifier, black box in front of radiator, left side.

thanks i`ll give that a try next weekend at camp,this weekend is figuring out why i have no brakes and no brake lines leaking and there is fluid,on the 96 sportsman 500
