Default 2 cycle oil

Hi, I have a 1997 sportsman 400L and was wondering if I could use any quality brand of 2 cycle oil to fill the reservior with or only use the Polaris brand. I live about 45 minutes away from the nearest dealer and it would be much easier to use a quality brand that I can buy at the local motorsports dealer. Thanks

Any major brand of 2cycle oil should work.

I think if it is TCW-3 rated it should work. You could double check with your motorsports place.

i have run texaco havoline tcw3 2 cycle oil (from sams club)in my 94 for the last 4 years ive owned it. Ive also run it in my 95 polaris slt 750 for atleast 10 years... waverunner still runs perfect. any tcw3 should be fine.

On a side note my 1994 sportsman uses a ridiculously low amount of oil... while the 3 cylinder waverunner drinks it quite heavily.. lol

Is it an air cooled machine? I was told to use 2 stroke motorcycle oil in my air cooled Trail Boss 250 because the tcw-3 rated is designed for outboards that have an unlimited source of water/coolant. I have been using Castrol 2T motorcycle oil with good results so far.

My local Polaris dealer only carries semi-syn and full syn 2-stroke oil. I believe the costs are $30 and $40 per gallon respectively (no, I'm not kidding). The good news is I just finished off the original gallon of oil on my '01 250 Xplorer.
