Thanks to all of you for the info.

In your opinion, how long should a belt last? I have about 2k miles on my 700 and I would say my riding is easy to moderate. I have pulled heavy stuff with it but not very often and it has always been in low.

I guess I am a little surprised at the belt breaking on me since I do not extreme ride or even do much mudding with it. Most of the time I am just using it for a leisure ride or taking my dog for a run. That speed is usually around 15-20 mph which is a little too high for low but a little slow for high.

Have those of you with oversized tires changed your clutches? Would this help prolong the life of the belt any?

I change the belt every 2000 miles,I don,t wait for them to blow. A belts is only $50-$80 dollars and takes me 25 min to change.

A ULTIMAX BELT BY CARISLE is $48 for a 700 Sportsman if your dealer gets ridiculous.

2000 miles is about 3 years of riding for me ,so it works out pretty cheap really.

28" tires, yes get a clutch kit. the reason its so hot is because its slipping. Slipping = heat.

I got the new belt tonight and I am in the process of putting it back together but how do you get all the pieces of belt cleaned out of the cooling tubes (I guess that is what you would call them)? Do I have to take all that stuff apart to clean it out? Or, will it blow them out if I start the engine and let it rev up a few times? Is there anything else I need to be aware of? Thanks!
