Default Polaris Sportman 300 Air Intake Issues

Hey guys, i bought my son a 300 last year and since then we have had to take it in 2 times for water problems. The first time we drove through 8 inches of water pretty fast and the water went flying. The second we were going through maybe a foot, but slowly and it did not splash too bad. I asked the dealer and he thought it was odd too but could not figure out how water was getting into the air intake. I have read reviews where other people immerse their 300 and have no issues with it. Am I missing something, i thought Polaris was made to be worked over out in the field. My son is disappointed that he can not go the same places as his friends for fear of flooding the intake.

Someone please help!

Sounds like water is getting in somewhere for sure. Is the airbox wet inside after? Could be a bad seal or loose hose clamp somewhere. If there's a crack or leak you may be able to find it by trying some old school methods. Try using a spray bottle with water and squirt around the airbox seals/hoses while running and see if/where it bogs down. Other method is doing the same with some starting fluid. If you hit a spot and it idles up you found the leak.

As a matter of fact there was water in the airbox where the filter is located and it actually sucked water into the engine. I will try that once i get it back from the shop and see if i can figure out where it is at. I have thought about putting a snorkle kit on it but that seemed a little overkill.

Snorkel may not help(may also make it illegal to ride trails where you live-can't have snorkels here in MN). Sometimes the boxes themselves don't seal right. Check the factory snorkel, lid seal, box to carb seal, drain plug seal, and also the box itself for cracks. Haven't had issues with my daughter's 300 yet and that has been up to the racks in mud/water a few times.

Make sure intake #6 is tight to #15 gasket and that tight to #3 lid and lid is tight to air box with seal #9 setted corectly.

Also carb intake #14 is tight on air box and carb end. Also make sure drain plugs under the air box make sure its in place,Part #11.

If these are all tight and there is no cracks in the pastics then it should be water tight, there just not much to it.
