Could be an electrical problem, check connections on left side control switch first, Could be dirty connections! Use a little Nyogel (electrical grease) on connectors, plus can check under front panel at all connections. Can be as simple as a bad spark plug or short in the plug wire. Check air cleaner also. If NO difference, then you could have a mechanical problem (bad exhaust cam lobe) frequent problem on the early 500's One symptom is spitting back through carb, LACK of power. One other thing is under the front panel on the cdi module is a BLACK wire. Disconnect it and see if runs better(this is the kill wire to cdi) this eliminates the kill switch and left control switch. Keep us posted OPT

if it's like my 2001.. take off the seat and see if the foam around the air snorkel intake (under the gas tank cover) didn't move up and suck onto the end of the intake. 10 second fix if you're lucky. Mine does it every month or two. Idles fine until you hit the gas and then stumbles!

Good answer! We had a similar problem on the 2001 magnum 325's when they"improved" the air box snorkel. No foam was used and the snorkel was extended further up under tank shroud, and some, not all would press against tank and restrict air flow when you sat on it and would bog down! Figured it out when we stood up on floorboard and they would run great! Had quire a few do this! Needles to say we "improved"on the "improved' snorkel.A hacksaw at a steep 45 degree angle worked wonders! Hopefully the foam could be his problem! OPT
