Im new and would like some information, on my bike.
i would like to know what engines would fit into the frame of
a 1995 425 magnum. and up which year the motors would fit.
would like to install a 500 from a sportsman or scrambler, but i dont know up
to what year these would fit. i do know it it would porbably be easier to use the scrambler as this is chain drive.
any hellp would be great

 

Welcome to the forum! The last 425magnum was in 98 not 99.In 99 they went to the 500 engine! The main difference was in the front and rear engine mount brackets in the 425 and 500(depending on the transmission),plus the mounts changed again on the later Sportsman 500 a little,BUT You could probably fit a 500 engine in your frame? Should be enough top clearance? Plus the 425 engine case is basically the same as the 500. The major difference was how it mounted to the different transmissions at the rear whether it be a Magnum,Sportsman,or Scrambler,but the case has a mounting spot for one or two engine mounts,plus the front brackets were different,but again your brackets could be used (I believe). PLUS if you found a later 500 HO engine the carb was different!! (38 mm versus 40 mm) PLUS stator hookups may be a little different?? I think a member or two has done a swap if I remember?? Do you just want a 500 engine or is yours in need of repairs?? What it boils down to,it would take a little "rigging"(some things would be different) but nothing major I don't believe! I never swapped em out,I just rebuilt em OPT
