I dont know about the older ones but I love mine (its a 2011) clearance isnt an issue (as is with other brands) have not had an issue with the 4 wheel drive at all I keep up with 700s on trails even with them trying to loose me. I have pulled out other brands and rode through the mud in 2 wheel drive I have floated it down a river (kept it running of course) pulled trees out of the ground have pulled downed trees that my landlords jeep wouldnt pull I am more than happy with my 500

I have had great luck with my 2001 Sportsman 500 with 3700 miles on it. Its the exact same ATV and motor, just that the 425 has a different bore or stroke or both and a smaller 34mm - CV Mikuni vs a 40mm, both motors are made in Japan by Fuji Industries (Mitsubishi).

Our 97 fuji built 500 has 7500 miles on it.

Here is the link, you tell me the differance. 2001 Polaris Sportsman 400 ATVs

Not many owner reviews on the 400 but look at the 2001 500s owner reports, there almost all 5 star ratings. Vehicle Reviews for 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O.

Fuji makes Subaru, not Mistsubishi.

I had a 2001 500 HO, loved the bike. Only problem I had was with the front hubs, had to rebuild them a few times there filled with demand drive fluid and if you don't get the seals in perfect they'll leak. They fixed that with the newer models by using a front diff the locks in and out fixed hubs on front like the rear.

The 2001 400 Sportsman is a very good machine. The 425 ebgine is tried and true.A little down on power compared to a 500HO but with a little clutch work and good tires it is great.

I own one and I'm fixing to get rid of it for a new one! Won't buy another tv from anyone that makes, cars, planes, electronics, etc! Gonna stay with electronics only company!Even though their all made in Mexico or China OPT
