I found the right part # for the moose kit, now how do you order from the site ? and should i get a new overflow tube ?

 

You will have to order the Moose kit from an authorized dealer,some could be on Ebay,etc. Just Google your part number,check Bike Bandit,Cycle Parts Warehouse for after market kits,even Amazon to see if they can supply the kit. Any auto store should have the 1/8" or 3/16" clear vinyl tubing for the overflow. Allow enough to extend beyond the bash plate so gas wont get on the engine if it leaks again or if you drain the fuel bowl. OPT

 

Talked to the guy who i bought it from and i told him im getting a battery tomorrow and he said he would hate to see me drain a new battery because he knows thats not the issue. He thinks its the stator. He said it blew out his light bulb and the fans wont turn on.

 

Faulty regulator/rectifiers were the most common reason for the batteries not charging,NOT over ruling a stator problem,but pop the front panel and at the right front by the radiator check that all the wires are connected to the regulator/rectifier. Have also had that happen a lot on the Sportsmans. IF you have a 1999 model the stator wires Yellow to Yellow/Red should read 0.13 ohms with NO yellow wire shorting to ground. If this checks out,replace the regulator rectifier. OPT

 

I the battery is dead and the ATV still runs, that means your charging system is at least working. If the charging system isn't working at all and the battery is dead, then there Is no way for it to run because it can't provide spark.

The older Polaris models could still recoil start with a dead or near dead battery.They still used the older magneto triggered ignition system. Regulator/rectifiers can under charge(battery voltage or lower) or over charge(up to 16-18 volts) drying up the battery acid and shorting cells. Different now on the new models.They have to have a good battery. OPT

 

My guess is that there is a broken wire at the rectifier on the front of the machine.
Had an issue with one on a 2003 700 that was trailered alot.

How many amps are the batteries for these machines. I have a 400 sportsman and i think i need a new one.

 

14 amp battery. Doesn't matter if it's a YB 14AA2(stock Yuasa battery on older Polaris atvs),BB14AA2,etc. This for a standard lead acid battery that you maintain the level in. You can also step up to a maintenance free YTX14AH-BS(called for now in a lot of applications) or even a glass mat battery. OPT
