Default Sportsman 500HO help

So my battery wouldn't hold a charge, after investigating I found the power wire to the voltage regulater was not connected, no it charges as it should. My issue is as I rode it a couple times with basically a dead battery it all the sudden started acting up. It won't accelerate past about 10mph, it starts cutting out, acts like spark is weak. I don't believe it is the cam since it happened almost instantly, the carb was just rebuilt and it was running fine until the battery stopped charging. My question is could I have fried my CDI or is my coil going bad running it with a basically dead battery? I am much better mechanically than I am with electronics lol. I did check the coil and it's reading .25ohms, book says .3 ohms. It idles perfect and fires right up without any issues. Is this a normal symptom of CDI going bad or possible coil? It does same thing in reverse even with override button pushed in. It does not backfire but rather acts like it gets so rich it wants to die and lose most power. A weak spark as rpms rise would cause a rich condition I would think. Is there a way to test CDI? I will probably replace the coil just for good measure. My bike is a 2001 500HO. Any help would be appreciated!

Pull the connector from the speedo and see if you have full power. The rpm limiter is built into the speedometer.

Thanks for suggestion, I tried that with no success. The way it just happened like a turning off a switch makes me think electrical, especially since I ran the battery dead a couple times I thought that might have caused an issue. It's irritating because so many things can cause this issue.

Start at the simple things first. If in doubt about the battery just have it load tested at any auto store. If it has a dead cell from running it down even though you may have the charging problem fixed, the battery may not be able to hold the charge and deliver enough voltage.
