Could be either one.The carb is the cheapest of the two to eliminate first. If you have doubts on the carb you can either just pull the carb and clean the jets and check the float level,but a carb kit is the best way to go and can eliminate that as the source of the problem. Plenty of carb kits on ebay for your model.Plus don't overlook a partially fouled plug,dirty air filter,etc. Plus you can pull the ecm and check its guts,visually check for any burnt spots and if there is,usually has a burnt smell.No really good test on it,but it does control several things along with having several circuit breakers.Here's one that one poster showed that left no doubt about it being his problem.

Its a 2005 you defiantly want to make sure it got the ECM recall done . ATV: Polaris Ind. expands recall of ATVs
