Default Sportsman 500 ho dash cluster problem

I have a 08 Sportsman 500 HO. My dash cluster seems to be out but I want to test it so I ordered a manual for it. I ordered the right one but the 16 pin wiring info doesn't match up with my atv wiring. Does anyone have the harness wiring color code. Thanks, Neil

Color code legend should be in the left hand corner of the schematic. I have this manual, don't know if you have the same one.2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 Service Manual PDF Download

Hi old polaris tec, Thats the one I bought. I scrolled down and found the schematic for the 500 ho but the steps to diagnose the cluster is for the 500 efi and the wiring is not the same colors. Where do I find the steps for diagnosing the 500 ho. Thanks, Neil

My manual doesn't distinguish between the efi and carb model on the speedo, but the speedo may not be the problem once I saw that it had the ecm module.. This may be the source of the problem as it has all the circuit breakers, etc. See if your manual has a check on the ecm module as it leads to the speedo also. Item #1. I changed out the ecm and that didn't fix it. All power would cut out. I would have to plug and unplug the harness to get power. After it would start and run I would kill it it and then no power. The dash would had condinsation in it. It would only show H L N no reverse or part. My 4x4 would not work at all. I unplugged the dash connections and now it starts all the headlights work and the 4x4 works and it has not lost power in over 2 week. If I connect the dash it shorts out and nothing works. Ive been using it without the dash and everything is fine. Have you ever heard of this before. Thanks, Neil

Sounds like you either need a new speedo.. or try to rebuild it as some have done. Sounds like either internal moisture or circuit damage causing loss of power if it's plugged in. Look over these posts and see if it helps.
