Feel for deep grooving in the clutch towers where the buttons glide. If they're really deep button replacement may not help on the clanking. I've had them come into the shop that sounded like diesel trucks when people waited too long for clutch rebuilds.

ok so im pretty excited to say the clutch will be fine i think lol the buttons are toast theres only 1 solid button on it that looks ok the rest are squished and 2 are missing the towers look mint all smooth except for the one the button is missing kinda has a very tiny groov not bad at all but i guess thats cuz the buttons not there ...

Also i was really scared it was the rod or crank shafts or whatever its called bearings where gone that was making the clutch do that but the clutch has no up and down or left to right play on the pole ... and the recoil starter plate dosent have any play what so ever lol .......

so now back to the camshaft it is still very cold here will try to get some good quality piics or a vid to post by the weekend and go from there

thanks guys for ur help

Missing buttons will make some noise.. Hopefully new ones will solve the problem and the clutch will be ok. Try to get a good side shot of the cam lobe if you can.As long as it looks like the intake lobes and not ground down, the cam may not be the problem. Keep us updated.

Just lucky or the clutch may have been rubbing the cover. Seems you would have noticed any rubbing noise even above the clutch clacking if it was. Just rebuild the clutches, check the motor mounts for any separation or engine flexing and once that's done if you still have problems at least you can eliminate the clutches as causing the problem.

Easier if you have it at tdc or close to it. Just pull the recoil, watch as the intake rocker arms go down and come back up.Look at the cam sprocket to see that the index pin is straight up for tdc. Stop and check that you have clearance under the intake and exhaust rocker arms. Then just unbolt the rocker blocks,BUT You can still just rotate the engine and have the cam lobe sideways to get a good view without having to pull the rocker arm blocks, but this is up to you. Tdc on the pic.

Lobe height looks good hard to see any damage from oily film on the lobe, slight scarring on rocker pad from cam detent ball rubbing, but all in all not too bad looking considering what some have looked like.. I'd concentrate on getting that noisy clutch repaired and take it from there..Rocker arm pads torque back down to 10 foot pounds max.
