I was just wondering: If a small branch the size of a "Chapstick" gets caught in the chain and/or front sproket of my quad... can cause it to have harsh clicking/clanking as if it was grinding a gear?

It has happened twice recently and only once have I found a piece of branch stuck on top of the front sproket. The second time it did this I saw no obstruction.

At first my clutches came to mind or the tranny. It hasn't done it in a while. Could it be anything else? Could it be something out of whack when I give it full throttle? It actually thumped hard every revolution and it could be fealt through the seat.

Any ideas guys???

My swingarm pivot bolt came loose causing my chain to bind up on the sprocket. Under hard acceleration it would click.

I had this happening to my scram 400 2x4. Lubed the chain and it went away. After a few hours of riding it came back. This went on for a month or so. Checked my chain closely and found roller missing, replaced the chain and sound has never came back. I believe the chain failure was due to me using a power washer and spraying my chain while cleaning my quad. Lession learned.

Could you actually "feel" it though? Mine feels like it "kicks"...That's about the only way I can find to explain it. Kind of like going through a turnstyle gate in the subway or stadium. Smooth at first...then tock! I am not convinced that just a chain or sprocket can make suck a noise or jolt the quad so much...

Tomorrow I will check the entire chain. It has only about 5 rides on it!

Hey Xplor~

My Scrambler has done that "kicking" thing also. Check the chain guide on the bottom of the swingarm close to the tranny. Mine had two deep grooves in it from the chain rubbing and the master link was catching every revolution under hard acceleration. Of course, your machine is 4 years newer than mine and they may have eliminated that chain guide for good!! Good luck solving your problem.

I don't know about Four Wheelers, but if your belt is bad on a Sled it can cause a "Thumping" sound/feel. Just thought I'd add that. Good luck.
