snowmobile engine in a quad?

How about a 500w/ves? Definitely a screamer, pvt or not, nothing would touch it. I thought about this, and realized that very few people could handle the thing. You would spin any tire so freely, you couldn't afford to keep rubber on the thing. Now make quads street legal, and put on a good suspension and street tires and whooooooeeeeeee!

Obviously you guys have'nt seen the new (12/99) 4 Wheel ATV Action. There is a section on European quads that raced the 12 hours of Pont de Vaux. In it was a pic of a 750cc triple stuffed into a 400L frame with quite a few mods.
MDelby, you want to talk about a screamer! The mag said they would have more indepth reveiws on a few of the ones they showed, I hope that "750L" is among them. Oh, wait a minute what am I thinking, a ATV mag. do an in depth article on a Polaris. They'll probably choose that POS Breeze 125 pictured next to it that's modded to be street leagl!
Anyway since we're talking about sled engines the INDY 400/440's are single cylinders right? What about the 500? All the rage with 250R's now is to swap a Piolt 400 jug/head onto the 250R bottom end (no modification needed). Is their the possibility to do the same with one of the INDY jugs? How much difference is their in the stroke of the two?
But, to answer the first question, word is that Hot Seat is (or is at least thinking about it) working on a chassis that will accept a 500-600cc sled motor. Like I said though, its just been talk so far.

Is that 750 triple the same unit found in the 750 Polaris Personal Watercraft?.. I don't keep up with the PWC world, but, Thats an IDEA... 750cc Triple 2-stroke......mmmmmmm I would DEFINITELY make my Scrambler 2WD ONLY and STREET LEGAL!!!...
(This is Texas, not many snowmobiles to look at for comparison purposes!!!)
Anybody with technicial info or diagrams/charts/schematics feel free to send them to me!!... I'd Like to try it!!!..

By looking at the picture it appears that the frame is OEM Polaris, while the swingarm, axle, A-arms, and spindles among other things are aftermarket. The tranny is apparently completely homemade too. I'm sure there was quite a bit of fabricating done to make this possible. Which is why I was curious about using a snowmobile (perhaps an INDY 440 or 500) jug on the 400L bottom end. Seems like it would be easier, if possible?

The 440 sled engine is a twin, as are the 500 & 600 cc motors. Hot Seat just sent me an e-mail and they indicated they are about a year away from even being close to releasing anything. I think that it would be pretty difficult to handle anything more than 100 hp in any quad. I believe that is what Hot Seat thinks also, that's why their chassis is for a 500-600 cc twin. The 440 are too hyper and require constant tuning. The 700's on up have more power that would be unusable. Maybe for just drag racing, but to be able to transfer all that power to the ground and remain in control would be a major problem, especially with the present chassis.
The big challenge is hooking the motor shaft to the tranny. The position is different and the shaft is a different size. We checked this out about a year ago. If you didn't have to worry about mud, that would be fine and you could adapt the sled tranny.
