atv pulls

I do believe you guys. We tried that with our '98 ForemanES and '97 Sportsman 500. We hooked them up back to back (hitch to hitch) and the Sportsman won no problem. We first pulled on the grass, there is was tied, noone moving the other person an inch, both just spinning out. On the hardpack it was a different story. Like Quadman said, the Honda will hop up and down for traction. That's exactly what ours did. I was on the Sportsman, and I could leave up on the gas and leave the Honda start to pull me backwards, I'd give the Sportsman a little gas and it would just stop the Honda and pull it backwards. There's three major advantages that I see that the Sportsman has. First off, it has the weight, much much heavier than the Honda. The true four wheel drive of the Sportsman didn't matter because the Honda was spinning all fours all the time anyway. Second is the hitch is higher up on the Sportsman, giving it a little more lift than what the Honda gets, actually it lifts up on the Honda's hitch a little. Last thing is rear tires! They are 25" tires (all machines had stock tires) but they probably measure out to be at least 26" with those huge lugs they have. That is an advantage in not only traction but in tire height. If we tried the pull on pavement, then the Honda probably would have won cause I don't think the Sportsman's belt would take that. Not that we would try it on pavement though.

Rooster, there was a guy with a Scrambler 500 testing 3 different belts to see whip one gripped best, and he tied his Scrambler to the back of his truck on pavement and put the Scrambler in 4wd and it could spin all 4 with even the stock belt. The Sportsman has low range, so it should do it easier.
I think mudmachine did a pull off with a guy on pavement with his Magnum and he said he was winning, and then they hooked 2 quads to his and he just started spinning all 4 tires (27" Blackwaters) on the pavement, then the he got wheel hop and then twisted an axle. DOH! But the belt didn't give out.

jsut ot let u all know how strong one of those belts are, well my dads harley Davidson, is belt driven and this is its primary drive from the engine to rear wheelm he cranks on that throttle HARD! and this is no small engine its 1340 cc also with out all emissions and screamin eagle pipes (without muffels) so u can probably imagine this power gonig through the belt, i think it can hanle a tranny
