Doesn't some atv manufacturers seal the drive
belt assembly? My sp500 has a lot of belt slippage in the snow, I was wondering if anyone has heard about ways to reduce the size of the vent, or vent it in a better way?
I'm thinking snow is getting in the vent, and
causing my belt to slip. Could a guy seal off part of the vent to reduce the amount of snow entering? or will it get too hot?

Just because it ripped into hundreds of pieces doesnt mean something is not lined up...My dads sportsman did the same thing
But he smoked his belt real good while tryin to push a dually with a loaded trailer out of the mud....he did get the dually out and his belt broke into hundreds of pieces the next day

The pvt is probably letting water in somewhere other that than air intake vent. I've run mine in lots and lots of "deep" snow with never any problem at all. Make sure the system is sealed real good. The newer SP500's are known to get warped pvt covers for various reasons including operator error from people resting their feet on the cover, etc. Also, If you have had the cover off for any reason make sure the rubber gasket seal is clean when re-installed. With a little commen sense care you can assure that you are not allowing moisture to enter the system. I'll bet it ain't snow in the intake either.

The only time I've seen a belt get actually sheared is on racing sleds where the belt was under extremely severe race conditions, certainly nothing like a quad under any condition.
